How to Remove a Virus From Windows
The word 'virus' today usually means any malware. The removal path is the same regardless of the technical family: isolate, scan from outside the running system, clean, then verify.

Boot into Safe Mode with Networking if the PC is unusable
Hold Shift while clicking Restart, then choose Troubleshoot → Advanced options → Startup Settings → Restart, and press 5. Safe Mode loads a minimal driver set, which often stops the malware from running at all and makes removal straightforward.
Scan before Windows loads
Microsoft Defender Offline Scan is the built-in tool for this. Some vendors — ESET, Panda, Kaspersky — also let you build rescue media on a USB stick from a clean machine, which is useful when the PC will not boot at all.
Handle quarantine correctly
Quarantined files are neutralised, not deleted. Leave them there for a week in case something you needed was flagged in error, then empty the quarantine. Never restore a quarantined file just because a program stopped working — verify the file first.
Confirm the machine is clean
Two consecutive clean full scans from two different engines, no unexpected startup entries, no unfamiliar scheduled tasks, and normal network activity at idle. Only then log back into important accounts.

- It removes browser-level adware and hijackers but not file-system malware. Do both.
- Is System Restore a good removal tool?
- It can help, but plenty of malware disables or infects restore points. Use it as a supplement, not the primary method.
